With both CJDR and Mazda facilities having impressive show rooms, the next area a customer typically comes in contact with is the service area. The existing service shop at the Dodge facility had an older existing coating that was worn out, and pealing up in several areas. The Mazda Shop and Service Drive simply had sealed concrete, but over the years showed many stains from oil, grease, coolants, transmission fluid, brake fluid and heavy wear that would be expected from such an environment. Classic needed to somehow turn these floors into something presentable to their customers, and wanted a system that would stand up to auto-shop abuse, while maintaining ease of clean-ability. Classic called on Petra Coatings to asses the situation and come up with a solution.

Industrial Broadcast Flooring at Classic of Denton TexasThe first step was to determine if there were any factors that may inhibit a resinous floor system from adhering to the concrete, so moisture and PH tests were immediately set. It was discovered that the floor had moisture readings well above the recommended limit of 3 pounds per 1,000 s.f. (using calcium chloride tests), and Petra recommended the Industrial Broadcast System with Petra’s Moisture Seal system incorporated as the Primer and Build Coat. The next challenge was to schedule the installation in a manner that allowed Classic to stay in operation, with as little down time as possible. With approximately 20,000 square feet between the two facilities, Petra completed the install over a two week period, working evenings and weekends, which only required partial shut down of the service areas for only one half of each Saturday! The floor was Prepped mid-week, and installed on Saturday and Sunday. This allowed the shop to be in full operation the following Monday morning.

The advantage of the Industrial Broadcast system in an auto-shop environments is simple. It’s Petra’s most cost effective way to provide a high build floor, tough enough for the auto environment. It’s a three component system, comprised of 100% solids epoxy, and fine aggregate. The epoxy resin formulated specifically for oily auto environments. Both of these floors have been in operation for approximately two years, exhibiting excellent adhesion, with no signs of de-lamination from moisture, and still look great after a good scrubbing with Classic’s floor buffer.
